Overview of the Choral Conducting Curriculum
학생들은 시대별 음악 양식과 해석 능력을 심화하고, 실제 현장에서 필요한 지휘 실습과 리허설 운영 능력을 체계적으로 개발함으로써, 예술성과 전문성을 갖춘 합창지휘자로 성장하게 됩니다.
The Choral Conducting Program at the Calvin Theological Seminary Graduate School of Choral Music aims to cultivate professional choral conductors who embody both academic depth and artistic leadership.This program extends beyond the acquisition of basic conducting skills and offers an integrated curriculum encompassing choral literature, interpretation, rehearsal techniques, vocal and vocal production studies, language and diction, orchestral conducting, and choral pedagogy?all essential competencies for today’s complete choral conductor. Through in-depth study of stylistic practices across musical periods and systematic development of practical conducting and rehearsal skills, students are trained to become musically expressive and professionally competent choral conductors prepared for diverse artistic and educational settings.

Students study essential components of choral leadership?including interpretation, rehearsal techniques, visual conducting skills, and choral blending?to develop the ability to create a beautiful choral sound and to cultivate the qualities of an excellent choral conductor.
Diction 00(Choral Diction 00 (CD 00))
Italian, English, Latin, German, French 등 다양한 언어의 합창곡을 정확하고 아름답게 노래할 수 있도록 발음, 악센트, 연음 등 언어적 요소를 배웁니다. 이를 통해 바른 Diction Technique를 익히게 됩니다.
Students learn accurate pronunciation, accentuation, and liaison for major choral languages such as Italian, English, Latin, German, and French. Through these studies, they acquire refined diction techniques necessary for expressive and stylistically appropriate choral performance.
합창문헌 01-02(Choral Literature 01-02 (CL 01-02))
르네상스부터 20세기에 이르는 합창문헌의 역사적 배경과 주요 작품들을 학습하고, 분석과 감상을 통해 시대별 합창음악의 Style을 이해하며 폭넓은 Repertoire를 습득합니다.
Covering repertoire from the Renaissance through the 20th century, students explore historical context, analyze representative works, and develop an understanding of stylistic characteristics. The course enables students to build a broad and informed choral repertoire.

르네상스부터 20세기 주요 합창곡을 중심으로 지휘법을 배우며, 음악적 해석과 기술적 역량을 고루 갖춘 합창지도자로 성장할 수 있도록 지도합니다.
Through intensive study of major choral works from the Renaissance to the 20th century, students develop comprehensive conducting skills, combining musical interpretation with technical mastery, thereby preparing to lead choirs with artistry and confidence.
합창 리허설 테크닉 00(Choral Rehearsal Techniques (CRT 00)))
효율적이고 과학적인 리허설을 가능하게 하는 Rehearsal Technique를 학습합니다. 이를 통해 실제 연습 현장에서 효과적으로 합창단을 지도하실 수 있는 전문성을 갖추게 됩니다.
Students learn scientific and practical rehearsal strategies that promote efficient and effective leadership in rehearsals. This course strengthens the conductor’s ability to guide ensembles with clarity, purpose, and musical insight.

As a competent choral conductor, I will cultivate the qualities necessary to accurately understand and effectively guide the performance of masterful choral works that hold an important place in choral literature by interpreting the entire piece with orchestral accompaniment, studying visual techniques, rehearsal techniques, and performance practices to achieve a remarkable performance.

Orchestral-accompanied choral masterworks are studied and interpreted in their entirety, with focused research on visual conducting technique, rehearsal technique, and performance practice. Through this process, students develop a precise understanding of masterworks that hold an important place in the choral literature and acquire the skills necessary to teach them effectively, thereby cultivating the artistic and professional competence required of an accomplished choral conductor.
졸업연주 준비 00(Graduation Conducting Recital Preparation (GCRP 00))
모든 교과과정을 이수하신 후, 그동안 배우신 내용을 종합하여 독립된 연주자·지휘자로 나아갈 수 있도록 지도합니다.졸업 합창지휘 리사이틀은 3개 시대, 3명의 작곡가, 3개 언어의 레퍼토리를 포함하여 약 1시간 분량으로 구성하도록 안내합니다.
After completing all coursework, students integrate their learning into the planning and presentation of an independent recital.The graduation choral conducting recital must include works representing three musical periods, three composers, and three languages, forming a program of approximately one hour in duration.

1) Full 편성 오케스트라와 함께하는 합창곡에 대한 Interpretation, Rehearsal, Visual Technique 이론 강의
2) Master Class 형식의 수업이 진행 (한 사람이 지휘할 때 나머지 학생들을 노래함)
3) Video Recording (지휘하는 모습을 Video Recording함)
4) Monitoring (Video Recording을 Monitoring한 후 레포트 작성해 교수에게 제출)
5) Feedback (Monitoring한 Report에 대한 교수의 Feedback)

강의목적
English, Latin, Italian, Gernan등의 외국어로 작사된 합창곡의 가사를 IPA (International Phonatic Alphabet)를 통해서 바르게 발음하여 바른 발성으로 아름답게 노래할 수 있도록 옳바른 Diction Technique를 익힌다.
강의목표
1) English, Latin, Italian, Gernan으로 작사된 합창곡의 IPA를 익혀 외국어를 바르게 발음하여 합창단을 지도할 때 바른 발음을 지도할 수 있는 합창지휘자의 역량을 기른다.
2) 바른 발성은 바른 발음에서 오므로 지휘자가 먼저 바른 Diction법을 익힌 후 합창단원들을 바르게 지도할 수 있는 소양을 기른다.
수업운영방법
1) English, Latin, Italian, Gernan의 Diction 이론 강의
2) 지난 시간에 배운 노래의 바른 발음으로 한 사람씩 노래함.
3) 한 언어가 끝날 때 마다 Assignment를 제출한다.
4) Feedback (교수는 과제에 대한 Feedback을 해줌)

1) 르네상스, 바로크, 고전주의 시대의 다양한 장르의 합창음악을 고찰하고 그들의 음악적 특성, 구조, 연주기법을 익힌다.
2) 다양한 장르의 합창음악을 연구한 후 그것들을 합창곡의 해석, 리허설, 합창연주할 때 적용한다.

강의목적
오케스트라 반주와 함께하는 합창 Master Piece 전곡을 Interpretation하고 Visual Technique, Rehearsal Technique, Performance Practice를 연구하여 합창문헌에서 중요한 위치를 차지하는 Master Piece를 정확하게 이해하고 효과적으로 지도하여 훌륭한 연주를 할 수 있는 역량있는 합창지휘자로서의 소양을 기른다.
강의목표
1) Orchestral Score Reading법을 익힌다.
2) 소편성 Orchestra로 반주되는 합창곡의 Interpretation, Rehearsal Technique, Visual Technique을 익힌다.
3) 합창지휘자로서 뿐아니라 오케스트라 지휘자로서의 역량을 기른다.

1) 소편성 오케스트라와 함께하는 합창곡에 대한 Interpretation, Rehearsal, Visual Technique이론 강의
2) Master Class 형식의 수업이 진행 (한 사람이 지휘할 때 나머지 학생들을 노래함)
3) Video Recording (지휘하는 모습을 Video Recording함)
4) Monitoring (Video Recording을 Monitoring한 후 레포트 작성해 교수에게 제출)
5) Feedback (Monitoring한 Report에 대한 교수의 Feedback)
